Noise/Machine Drawing
"The Slave," after Michaelanglo's Slave, like the portraits and experiments, comes from "exploring the territory between human mark-making skills and the more technically precise images that can be computer- generated. These series of works that highlight the difference between seeing a place or an emotion represented on a face, and seeing a place or face as a shape or line. Works drawn by a human hand are juxtaposed with similar images of some of the same subjects drawn by a computer. Paintings "seen" by the computer involve decisions about which details of the visual field are important according to objective, quantitative criteria these can be compared with paintings in which subjective criteria of human significance determine which features are emphasized. Click to see the process as applied to human subjects and landscapes.
