This project explores turbulent flows in a variety of environments. Turbulence is the fully chaotic motion of a rapidly flowing fluid. It can be visualized in the complex patterns of light diffraction produced by swimmers in a pool, or the dance of the mist at the foot of a waterfall. The Earth's atmosphere is a chaotic system; the seemingly random motions of the clouds permits us to see the complex flows of the air. The Taylor Column models complex fluid flows that go from stable to chaotic at the turn of a dial. |
